Since that has been coming up more lately, for really understandable reasons, I want to just lay out some really clear guidelines for people.
We do not allow any kind of threats of violence in our comments.
That includes hyperbole, jokes, sarcasm, etc etc. There are several reasons:
1) We just don't want it here. It's not part of our community vibe, and that's honestly enough.
2) Our mods don't need to be put in the position of deciding what's a "joke" and what's a threat or a problem. Tone in text is difficult, what's serious is hard to tell, a blanket rule of zero tolerance is really a very reasonable solution. Also see number one.
3) We're not remotely interested in legal liability or issues. We do not need law enforcement or lawyers coming to us demanding the IP address or details of a user who said they would like to chop of the head of the POTUS or Elon Musk or another poster etc etc. Also, see number two, and number one.
Please just respect it. That means no "we should shoot nazis in the face", no "we should bring back the guillotine and Elon Musk should be first in line", no "snipers with better aim would solve all our problems", no "these people deserve bats to the shin" please don't try and find some kind of loophole.
If you are angry, we understand. If you wish to vent that anger to the world feel free to do it on another platform and see if it bothers them or not. But we don't want it here. I don't personally recommend it, see the morons from January 6th who proudly filled their social media posts with things that helped convict them. (That they were pardoned later is pure luck, and not some sort of demonstration of their intelligence.)
Edge cases will be dealt with at our discretion. We may not catch everything, but if you are ejected from a thread or subjected to moderation for making it a habit or arguing about it with the mods that's just how it goes. Be smarter than a January 6th moron.
